Timothy Byrne, AIA
Funny. Adaptable. Likeable. Hardworking.
With over three decades of architectural experience, Tim brings a deep well of technical expertise and a detail-oriented mindset to every project. A licensed architect since 2003, his career spans public schools, civic buildings, and higher education facilities across Washington State.
“Architecture is really a balance of creativity and understanding how things go together.”
Tim’s path has taken him from hands-on design roles with regional firms to leadership positions, including managing Olympia School District’s capital projects and spearheading major efforts for The Evergreen State College and DSHS. Today at KMB, he focuses on quality control and technical specification writing, contributing to a wide range of DES projects and ensuring each design is practical, constructible, and cost-effective.
“I bring value through attention to detail—whether writing specifications or reviewing plans, I focus on ensuring materials are practical, cost-effective, and aligned with the design intent.”
Driven by equal parts creativity and curiosity, Tim sees architecture as a balance between art and precision—a philosophy rooted in his upbringing by an artist mother and engineer father. Outside the office, he finds joy in woodworking, often crafting furniture from a walnut tree he planted in 1997, and in the restorative power of music and comedy.
