Project Description:

Washington State Penitentiary was originally constructed in 1887 and is the oldest and only penitentiary in Washington. The Health Services Building (HSB) was needed to replace the outdated and decaying facility. The construction of the new facility provides medical clinic services as well as mental health, dental and a convalescence center for inmates. This greatly reduces costs as inmates, in the previous detention system, were typically kept under guard by custody staff at public hospitals subsequent to surgery. The HSB is designed to manage the day-to-day healthcare needs of the inmates in a safe and secure manner in compliance with WA DOC & ACA confinement standards.
