Project Description:
The East Dorm is a 152-bed capacity inmate facility for the Idaho Department of Corrections at the South Idaho Correctional Institution campus. The purpose of the East Dorm is to prepare residents for reentry to the community by delivering an environment that helps them build independent living skills and provide training opportunities. KMB partnered with Hummel Architects to design and develop four tiers of quad sleeping rooms arranged over two wings on two floors, each with a dayroom and restrooms. The program is level to provide more independent opportunities on the first floor. Amenities, program spaces, and design reflect the restorative justice philosophy of the Idaho DOC.
