Project Description:

In 2023, DSHS purchased the Cascade Behavior Health building in Tukwila, WA and converted it into the Olympic Heritage Behavioral Hospital to serve civil conversion patients from Western State Hospital.  Through multiple efforts, KMB is helping transform the existing facility into a secure, therapeutic behavioral health environment. This has included the remodel and upgrades to Wards 2-West, 3-West, 4-West, 2-North, 3-North, Kitchen, Dining, Patient Mall, new way-finding signage, and Door Hardware master planning. These floors now provide bright hallways, accommodating rooms, all-gender showers, and social spaces including a day room and lounge. Additionally, staff spaces were created and updated to include a nurses’ station, staff breakroom, updated laundry rooms, and medication offices, all of which are secured through keycard access. The kitchen and cafeteria have been modernized to create efficient meal preparation and serving while offering a calming space for dining patients.
