Meet the Team | Mark

“I’m proud of our culture of affirmation, and I talk about it a lot. It is a simple concept of recognizing team members' talents, putting them in a position to be successful, and then celebrating their accomplishments. I’ve found this approach brings significant professional satisfaction to individuals and project success for our clients.”

Partner Mark Beardemphl’s passion lies in building relationships of trust and respect, which is not surprising given his affable personality and easy laugh. Whether with clients, staff, partners, or consultants, Mark understands that fostering teamwork, leadership, and commitment (KMB’s mission statement) is crucial to business and project success. This is how his path in the architecture industry began, and it’s been foundational to the growth of the firm since its inception in 1987.

Mark joined KMB architects in 1992 under founder Kenneth Marc Bensimon, and ultimately, he and partner Steve Anderson (now retired) bought the firm in 2000. As a young professional, Mark was very intentional about showing respect to the more experienced staff at the firm, seeking their guidance and expertise to achieve shared goals. The confidence placed in him by mentors, like former Partner Bob Wolpert, was motivating, and he excelled at helping lead the firm through significant growth, cultivating relationships, continually building trust with clients, and always delivering on promises.

Within a diverse profession that requires many different skills, Mark believes that broad exposure to the various areas of architectural practice is important for team members to discover their passion and to gain professional satisfaction.

“That’s how I started, gaining experience in many areas, and I believe it’s important. It pushes people forward faster and has the potential to make our experience in the profession of architecture exceptionally rewarding. At KMB architects, we challenge people and give them the opportunity to flourish.”

Recent growth has only made for a stronger KMB architects. Mark wholly embraces the diversity of thought that has emerged with the addition of three new Partners to the leadership team. The culture of affirmation and inherent respect for unique individual talents has resulted in higher quality decision making for the firm and ultimately better project results for clients. This growth has also allowed Mark more opportunity to recharge his passion for recreating in the forests and waters of the Puget Sound region, returning reenergized to continue strengthening relationships and developing new business for the firm.
