Hsinyu Kao

Balanced. Patient. Curious.

Hsinyu is an innovative architectural designer who approaches her work with a balance of harmony and structure. Hsinyu originally pursued interior design and switched to architecture because of its impressive lifespan. The permanence of architectural design versus interior design was highly attractive and has given her more space to contribute to something that will last. After growing up in Taiwan, Hsinyu was intrigued by the difference of American architecture versus her home.

"Architecture reflects how we live, so in order to design a functional, desirable space, you have to understand what people want and how they will use it. That drives design more than anything else and is such an important element in any project."

Even after earning her architectural design degrees, Hsinyu has carried on a love of learning and seeks out new skills and knowledge in her everyday work. With an ever-evolving industry, she cherishes the ongoing opportunity to ask questions and learn new things about the world of architecture.  As a part of the KMB team, she especially enjoys being able to collaborate with her coworkers and get into a rhythm with the different skills they each bring to the table.

”I always learn something when I am here, which is very satisfying. Whether it's researching something on my own or collaborating with my coworkers, it is exciting to face new problems and come up with solutions."

Outside of work, Hsinyu enjoys hands-on hobbies such as painting and building with LEGOs. She likes being around nature either on a hike or in her garden.
