Dean E. McCarty, CCS, CSI

Methodical. Technical. Experienced.

Dean believes that a technical mindset and continual feedback are the keys to strong, effective specifications writing. With 25 years’ focusing on specifications, including 15 years running his own specialty firm, Dean has found that applying feedback after the specs are tested in the field is the most infallible way to create an environment of constant improvement and technical precision. He champions this mindset throughout the firm, instilling the contractual importance of complete and accurate specifications to project success.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of specifications writing is having the architect come back after construction administration and tell me that I really covered them in the field and a ‘thank you’ for the hard work. I love that.”

Dean takes a careful, methodical approach to specifications writing informed by his experience developing specs for a wide variety of public and private sector project types—from schools, colleges, and healthcare facilities to high-rise office buildings, multi-family housing, and commercial tenant improvements. He partners with the architectural team to understand the reasoning behind production selections so he can accurately depict the design intent in the specs, and then facilitates quality control through Bluebeam Revu sessions with the designers. Dean is a Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) through the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
