“The best part of working at KMB architects is the sheer volume and variety of work —the depth and breadth — especially the work for the State of Washington. The State is a sophisticated purchaser of architectural services, with projects that range from congregate care residences and prisons. to new construction and remodels.”
Meet the Team | Brian
Associate Brian Little is one of our most seasoned, well-rounded project managers, and the resident code expert at KMB architects. Brian’s vast experience in the industry is a valuable resource for the firm, and he’s always looking for opportunities to share his knowledge with the team, whether through formal mentoring and training or through impromptu discussions around the office. Brian makes it a point to continue building KMB architects’ reference library with various codes and materials, including a 1976 edition of the UBC in hard copy, primers on construction administration, sample contracts, and programming resources. Brian is known to take whatever time is necessary to ensure that team members fully grasp the topic at hand.
“I have a deep institutional knowledge of projects. I collect the information, but more importantly, I make sure everybody in the firm knows the reference materials are available.”
Growing up in Grays Harbor County, Brian always knew he wanted to be an architect, and he pursued a career that exposed him to various aspects of the practice. He graduated from WSU after a stint in carpentry and returned to Aberdeen to join a local architecture firm, Alan Gozart AIA Architects and Planners. Brian led the firm in the adoption of computer technology and was instrumental in their success. He then moved onto the agency side, where he spent time as the Plans Examiner for the City of Aberdeen and the Building Official for the City of Hoquiam before starting his own firm for a period of time. Brian likes to say he’s designed everything from food trucks to multi-million-dollar residences, but his true passion is the public works projects that he specializes in at KMB architects.
As an associate, Brian is instrumental in the mentorship of staff, constantly offering advice and teaching classes for KMB U, an in-house educational forum. Recently, Brian presented a primer on codes that spanned building history from 2000 B.C. to current day in just 45 detailed minutes.
As a native of Aberdeen, Brian is active in the community of Grays Harbor County. His civic duties have included serving on the Planning Commission, Shoreline Hearing Board, and Board of Adjustment for the City of Aberdeen. Come November, you may find Brian decked in pirate garb and leading the charge of the annual Thanksgiving water balloon fight between Aberdeen and Hoquiam.
