Ruben’s Projects:

Ruben Nuñez | Associate

Creative Thinker. Process-Oriented. Inspired

Ruben Nunez is a passionate designer who draws inspiration from the relationship between design and building performance. The belief that ideation is just as important as drawing is foundational to Ruben’s work. He considers design a structured process centered around two principles — an idea and a concept — that ultimately culminate in a building.

“We should always be challenged on design. I challenge the firm to do that; to go outside the box and try something different. Building performance pushes you to do that.”

Ruben is not shy to respectfully question and challenge his colleagues in order to push and elevate the design. Informed by his studies at the School of Architecture at Taliesin, his early work interning for Frank Gehry, and time spent designing with Arthur Erickson, Ruben thrives in a collaborative, design-focused environment. From his diverse portfolio of work spanning a wide range of projects — educational and justice facilities to convention centers and museums — Ruben offers insights that are grounded in experience.

As an associate in the firm, Ruben leads the “Inside the Designer’s Studio” monthly program. This program allows the office to engage in meaningful discussion regarding design process and KMB architects’ projects alike. By discussing each project in an open and transparent forum, each person can apply collective knowledge to their own projects. Ruben finds this forum inspirational and integral to his professional growth.

“What I like about working for KMB architects is the collaborative nature and how everybody has an equal opportunity – from partners down to interns. There’s a voice for everyone and that’s a pretty rare thing.”
