Lacey Museum and Cultural Center, City of Lacey
Location: Lacey, WA
Square Feet: 10,000 SF
Project Keywords: Museum, LEED Silver, Cultural Center
Project Description:
When completed, the new Lacey Museum and Cultural Center will be an attractive, engaging place for residents and visitors alike to learn and discover more about Lacey’s history and heritage. The new, expanded facility will replace an existing museum building that has outgrown its current space after 40 years of collecting and educating. The new museum will also serve a larger, more diverse audience, and be able to welcome local schools on field trips that meet state educational standards.
In addition to exhibits, the new museum will provide the community with dedicated research spaces, secure storage for museum collections, an events space, and a classroom. In addition to core history and heritage offerings, the museum will be able to provide programs such as theater, art, dance, music, and wellness all of which have been requested by the community. Community input also shows an increased desire for indoor spaces.
The new museum project has been a long-term goal of the City, and has been in development for over a decade. Public workshops helped shape the design concepts and solutions. Tribal partners, the Nisqually and Squaxin Island tribes, consulted in the development of the building and the exhibits. Additionally, this museum will be a LEED Silver and Salmon-Safe infrastructure.
